Class Descriptions:
Note: Each class has a unique intention and effect on one’s being. Energization Exercises emphasize the awakening of life force energy within the body. Strong Hatha Flow creates a calming effect while also building deeper core strength. Kundalini Yoga can help cleanse and detoxify different organs and systems of the body. Yoga for Core Strength specifically strengthens the spine and the abdomen, and Active Meditation Yoga is designed to help the student release stagnant thoughts and emotions. For optimum results, classes are designed to be attended consecutively throughout the week. This allows the student to target unique areas and aspects of body and mind each day. This cumulatively results in exceptional health in both mind and body.

Energization Exercises: This class focuses on different sets of exercises studied, perfected and passed down from great spiritual teachers. The class will cover movements from various traditions including: Yoga- Yogananda’s Energization Exercises; Buddhism- The Five Tibetan Rites; Shamanism- Don Juan’s and Carlos Castenadas’ Magical Passes and Modern Psychology Psycho-Calisthenics of Oscar Ichazo.

Strong Hatha Flow: This class teaches the practice joyfully and fluidly connecting together breath, movement and awareness. Movement from one posture to another is slow and deliberate with an emphasis on strengthening the deep core muscles of the body. Postures are held for extended periods of time to increase strength and life force energy to designated areas of the body. Awareness is constantly placed back toward the natural rhythm of breathing. This class is enjoyable for advanced and beginning students. Among the different types of classes offered at Elemental Yoga, we suggest that beginners start with this class.

Kundalini Yoga: The practice of Kundalini Yoga was brought to the West by a man named Harbhajan Singh Puri, also known as Yogi Bhajan. Yogi Bhajan brought hundreds of kundalini kriyas, which are exercise sets in combination with pranayama, locks, chanting and meditation designed to produce specific effects on the mind and the body. Kundalini Yoga is said to be the fast track because it produces immediate and palpable effects to improve health, still the mind and awaken states of bliss. It is ideal for the householder Yogi seeking profound results in condensed periods of time.

Yoga for Core Strength: Yoga for Core Strength is similar to Strong Hatha Flow in its emphasis on strong, slow, powerful movements. However in this class, more time is allotted specifically for strengthening the spinal muscles and the musles of the abdominal wall. The emphasis is on strengthening the muscles from the inside out thus increasing a person’s inner radiance and magnetism. As one focuses on building inner core strength, this aids in turning their awareness inward and finding happiness from within rather than outside. As the core strength of a person builds, so does the innate healing capacity of the body as well as self-esteem and self-worth. One recognizes their immense inner power.

Active Meditation Yoga: This class is designed as a preparatory activity for meditation. Classes consist of repetitive and rigorous movements. Through breath and repetition, a doorway is opened for the student to process suppressed thought and emotion in a somatic, bodily way rather than an intellectual way. The result is that previously burdensome thoughts, emotions and feelings are released and the student is freed to move into a more still space for meditation. This class will consist of fifty minutes of rigorous movement and end with ten minutes of rest and meditation.

By Donation Yoga: While all classes are open to new students, a donation class designates that students without specific membership plans can attend this class and donate the amount that they choose in exchange for that class.

Beginners enjoy:

  • A warm and welcoming studio environment.
  • Slow and graceful body movements.
  • Building Yoga postures and sequences from their foundations.
  • Development of core strength.
  • An increase in functional mobility and flexibility.
  • A sense of ease during and after practice.

Advanced students enjoy:

  • The deeply meditative experience of the breath and movement coming together (vinyasa).
  • Increased awareness of internal body movement: including heartbeat, circulation & internal organs.
  • The use of the breath as a tool for healing.
  • A supportive environment to nurture a dedicated personal practice.
  • Increased calmness, peace and gratitude.
